Pinus monophylla califoniarum trees can be distinguished from Pinus quadrifolia by the less symmetrical crown and more branched trunks.
The Pinus monophylla californiarum are on the dryer eastern escarpment. Pinus quadrifolia/juarezensis was on top of the plateau and to the west of town.
