Important: It is not allowed to post a message or part of a message to another Forum.
Do not copy and paste anyone's messages, comments or photos about a topic to another group.
All E-mail messages and their content have to remain private; they are only accessible to members of the group. You may not publicize members message and photos or use any part of a message without written consent from the author.

    Messages completely unrelated to topic.
Examples might be: politics, religion, etc.
Other inappropriate postings are advertisements or employment wanted messages.

  • Posting messages:
This list serves an international audience.
As a courtesy to our international community please specify
all measurements in standard international format:

    • Give temperatures in degrees Celsius (with Fahrenheit as well if desired)
and plant sizes, distances, etc., in metric units (with imperial units as well if desired).
    • There are two conversion tables on the Web Site and in the 'Footer' of the message to assist anyone needing to convert measurements for posts.
    • Use scientific names for conifers, rather than local vernacular names which can be confusing or misleading.
    • In order to get a correct answer, it is recommended members use a Signature:
Your full name, country (and state or region in large countries with diverse climates), USDA hardiness zone (or other climate zone) including temperature in Celsius (and optionally also in Fahrenheit), type of soil, and any other physical or environmental influences that might be pertinent to growing.
    • Post in English language, or botanical Latin with an English summary.

  • Photos:
    • Sending with a message: It is recommended to send photos to the group providing a link, or as an 'attachment'.
Remember : attachments are not viewable by members who receive a 'Daily Digest'.
Photos imbedded in a message are NOT acceptable. They are problematic in a reply message.
    • Posting on the 'Yahoo Groups Page': Try to limit the size to 200kb for one photo (JPEG with compression rate at 70% is best when 100% is not compressed) with a maximum format of 800x600 - Max: 5 photos per album.

  • Off-topic/high volume postings will result in loss of your posting privileges.
Messages on how you would like to run the ‘Conifer Group’ or how you would like to change the ‘Conifer Group’ are not appropriate for the list.

  • This group is not to be used for advertising or promotion. (Examples might be: Posting your mail-order conifer list.)
You may add a link to your business or web site on the groups web site. There are 2 sites to add links: Yahoo Site and Conifer Web Site. You may also include a link to your web site in your signature.
The posting of conifer book releases and other conifer research material is NOT considered advertising. It is considered sharing of information.

  • Messages on how you would like to run the Conifer Group or how you would like to change the Group are not appropriate for the list. If you have a suggestion please contact the groups moderators.
Do not waste 'Conifers Groups' resources by discussing issues such as viruses and plain-text vs. HTML and other Internet issues not related to indexing.

  • To solve a posting a problem:
Should there arise a problem with an inappropriate or unsatisfactory posting of a message, it is recommended that you respond without offending anyone:
You may 'copy and paste' the appropriate text found in the 'Rules of Conduct' into a reply message without any further comment.

  • Replying to messages - Important (NETIQUETTE) :
When replying to messages, please remove irrelevant text from the original message(s) repeated under your reply - if you do not, digest messages will become very difficult to read and you will inconvenience readers of your message with unnecessary repeated text.
